Question by : what should i do besides going to the vet, since my dog is in pain after 3 shots?
my 2year old maltese with PDA got 3 shots yesterday...rabies,bordetella and distemper...what should i do to lessen his pain...he ate and drank a little and at times he shivers...is this something to be worried about?

These are common symptoms, if he is eating and drinking, he should be fine. You can give him asprin, 5mg per pound the dog weighs is the max to give him, with a maltese I would go even less.

Question by precious1too: My dog was spayed yesterday, should I give her pain medicine?
I know that dogs seem to heal faster than people, but I still feel like I should be giving her something for pain. I asked at the vet's office and they told me she wouldn't need anything for pain. Why is that? I know when a woman has a hysterectomy it is a very painful experience, so wouldn't it be about the same for a dog?

Question by : do you think a dog in pain should be put to sleep or?
continue living to its last days even though it will still be suffering.
my dog is in the clinic right now she got run over by a car and she survived this past thrusday her liver is bad she has a broken leg she has heartworms, she just had puppies, the vet says its better to put her out of her misery she can die anyday because she is worn out. but some of my family says to let her live, let her live till she cant no more. BUt i think that is selfish, the dog has suffered alot she is old no one pays attention to her but they want to keep her alive? what do you think?
KELLY H. i say she is my dog because the family has had her since SHE was a puppy, i dont know how else to say it. i dont live here with my sister's and my brother the REAL owner of the dog,. she got hit by the car because she jumped out of the fence. she had puppies so they untied her so she could walk around the yard but she usually jumps thats why she was on a leash, but anyways she got run over by a car she was walking in the street.. thats how she got her liver damaged. about the heartworms my sister did buy her those pills to prevent heartworms but i dont think she gave it to her monthly as it said.

Euthanasia is an overdose of barbiturates that stop a dog's heart. The fluids are administered through an intravenous catheter or an injection, and when it's your dog being euthanized you can choose whether or not you want to be present. Some veterinarians will come to your home for this--a good idea if your dog finds going to the clinic or pet hospital stressful.

Question by trekkie88: Should I give my dog a pain pill on empty stomach?
My 4 year old retriever had spay surgery yesterday and I could tell she was in pain when I brought her home because she kept fidgeting and panting a lot. I gave her a pain pill but it didn't seem to help. She threw up once but it was about 4 hours after taking the pill. She seemed to sleep ok overnight though and isn't panting and is fidgeting less today. I think she's still in pain though and want to try giving her another pill but she hasn't wanted to eat her food (which is normal for her anyway, sometime she just lets it sit there). I know when I try to take a pill on an empty stomach, it makes me really sick and gives me a stomach ache, so I wasn't sure if I should give her one or not until she eats?
As a side note, my vet gave me the pain pills for her - they are Tramadol, 50mg each and it says to give 1 tablet up to every 8 hours as needed for pain.
I just tried to get her to eat some boiled chicken breast and rice and she wouldn't eat it so I guess she just has no appetite.

Same goes for dogs. Don't feed them painkillers on an empty stomach, otherwise they will probably just throw it up again

Question by Emily B: My dog had anal glands cleaned last week but is still in pain and licking, should I go back to the vet?
Last week I took my dog to the vet for an expressed anal gland and she said they were very full and that Gabby had a "sore bum". Since then my dog has been able to go poop but is in pain and her rear is very red. Should I be concerned? Do you think I need to go back to the vet? Today I put a cone on her so she would not lick the area, I don't think that is helping. Thank you!

Remember that should consult with your veterinarian before treating your dog with any new products.

Question by aemoore58: What should I do for my dogs abdominal pain?
My dog has sever abdomonal pain. He cannot use his back legs now and is not eating. You cannot even touch his stomach without him yelping. He has had very very small bowel movements the last two days hardly any at all and now none at all. When I go to pick him up he pees on the floor. We took to vet had an x-ray no bowel obstruction. Spine is fine. One vet says look like tumor in stomach the other vet said no its just his intestines. What do I do. He is on pain meds for now.
