My dog is old and has a degenerative, neurological disease. He's prescribed rimadyl but ran out. Today, he took a turn for the worse and is peeing blood and is in pain. I can't get him to a vet until Monday. What can i do?
There is no vet open around here.
There is no open vet anywhere nearby. We've already been told it's degenerative and there's nothing that can be done accept ease the pain. The peeing blood thing is new though. I just need to know what i can give him.

Question by Rosie M: How can I help my dog's pain?
My shih tzu (7 years old) got his leg stuck in his cage somehow and when I came home he was just laying there stuck. He is limping now and can move it when he needs to but doesn't walk at all on it.
:/
Do you think it's just a sprain?

Do you have a vet? Call your vet if you can. She may have swolled something un diagetable. If you cannot afford a vet, google local vets in your area and see if they can help you out...some will offer a free visit and others will offer help over the phone. Ugh..I that is a horrible thing to happen..good luck to you and Daisy!

Question by Nicholas Farnham: Help with dog issue, pain in paw?
I live with my aunt and she owns a 4 year old, I think, 4 or 5, year old pomeranian male. His front left paw has been hurting, he has been limping on it for about a week or so, about 3 days ago, my cousin was clipping his nails and found a piece of dog toenail wedged in his paw, he pulled it out, cleaned it with peroxide, but it has been 3 days and he still limps, at times a lot, others not at all.
Should I take him to vet? I never hear him whine, and he hands it to me when I say shake. I love this dog and just want him to be healthy, but at the moment, I am trying to be cost conscious, never taken him to vet and no idea how much it would cost.

Question by : Would an ice pack or heating pad help ease some pain for my dog after a spay operation?
We took our pup in today and got her fixed. She seems like shes ok but I can tell that the drugs are wearing off. She seems like shes hurting a little bit and I was just wondering if a heating pad or cold pack would help comfort her.

No take home pain meds? Maybe you could ask the vet for some tomorrow?
You could try either one, but I would be SUPER careful of anything cold perspiring and getting the stitches wet.
ADD- Just thought of something. My vet keeps animals for 2 nights after a spay and she keeps heating pads in their cages, unter a blanket so they are not directly on the heating pad. So maybe it would actually help. I think it's more for warmth then pain management, but it can't hurt to try it.
ADD - Rescue Member - I know. When I started rescuing after going to her with mom's cats, etc, it was weird to get used to the dogs coming home the same day. I don't know.
I will ask her next time I go there. I might be missing something. Maybe the owners have something else done in addition to the spay, who knows. I'll check into it.

If you suspect she has a stomach ache, don't feed her anything for 12-24 hours until her digestive tract can rest. When you switch foods, it's important that you do so gradually, mixing the old food with the new for a few days.
Maybe she just needs to use the restroom; take her out for a walk.

You need to have your vet treat it. You could make things worse by trying to treat it at home.

Question by robot heart: Dog in Pain, please help !?
This is a little graphic.
My shih tzu has a bacterial infection that makes him have diarrhea at least once an hour. Now his anus is extremely raw, chaffed, and hurting. He is constantly licking.
I called a pharmacist friend of mine and he said to apply (sparingly)either foot or baby powder. And that I don't want to use anything with moisture as that is his problem to begin with.
Does anyone have a pet that has had this problem ? Or do you think the salicylic acid in the foot powder is too bad ?
Thanks in advance from the both of us !
plus I'm afraid he is going to lick the powder and get sick.
He was taken to the today vet while I was at work and all she gave him was antibiotics.
