Infections of the external ear canal (outer ear) by bacteria or yeast, are one of the most common types of infections seen in dogs. Some breeds, such as Cocker Spaniels and Poodles, seem more prone to ear infections but they may occur in any breed. A dog with an ear infection is uncomfortable; his ear canals are sensitive. Ear mites can cause several of these symptoms, including a black discharge, scratching, and head shaking. There are several kinds of bacteria and at least one type of fungus which might cause an ear infection. First, the ear canal is examined with an otoscope, an instrument that provides magnification and light. The next step is to examine a sample of the material from the ear canal to determine which organism is causing the infection. The results of the otoscopic examination and cytology tell the veterinarian what to do. Cytologic study of debris from the ear canal dictates which drug to use.

It sounds like he might have an ear infection, which can be very painful.
Is his ear reddish inside, or does it have a bad smell to it? The dog might have an overgrowth of yeast bacteria, especially if he has floppy ears. You will need to take him to the vet to get his ears cleaned out, and get him medicine that will take care of the infection and the inflammation.
Sounds like an ear infection. I believe the black like that is usually a yeast infection. Take him to the vet and they'll hook you up.. In the meantime if he lets you, you can clean it out..
Go see a vet as soon as possible. He may have an ear infection or an injury.
she needs to see a vet
He could have mites. Check inside his ear and see if you see any black specs. If so it could be mites taking over or ticks. Rub behind his ear. If she scratches it when you stop he has mites.
As the name suggests, ear mites are a tiny spider like parasitic mite that infect the ears of dogs and cats. They usually live in the ear canals but can live on other parts of the dog or cat's body. Ear mites are the most common cause of ear infections seen by vets. They are more commonly found in cats than dogs but are a considerable cause of ear infection in dogs too.
This is very important. Symptoms include scratching, shaking of the head and a reddish brown or black waxy buildup in the ears. Here are a few steps to help relieve your pet of ear mites.
1.
Step 1
Confirm with your veterinarian that your pet has ear mites.
2.
Step 2
Use a small dropper with lukewarm mineral oil to lightly coat the inside of the ear. After several hours, the waxy buildup should soften so that you can clean out the ear with a cotton ball.
3.
Step 3
Ask your veterinarian about prescription insecticide or use an over-the-counter brand - these are fine for most cases. Use the product as directed.
4.
Step 4
Be patient and thorough. Treatments can take up to four weeks - enough time to eliminate any eggs that might hatch.
5.
Step 5
Give your pet mild flea baths during the treatment period to squelch any wayward mites.
6.
Step 6
Consult with your vet about more aggressive medication for a particularly stubborn case.
7.
Step 7
Treat all the animals in the household at the same time because the mites will relocate to new hosts.

Dog needs to be seen by a vet. We would have NO idea what is wrong. Only your vet can make the correct diagnosis and give you meds to clear them up.
Ear infection.
One of my dogs gets them all the time. Its just the way her ears are designed. Call your vets and ask for the medication. I have stuff that I use once I notice them. It is very important to clean the ears as well. So make sure you get some good stuff for that too.
It sounds like an ear infection. And if you've ever had an ear infection or swimmers ear, that can be very very painful. Contact your vet, there may be some sort of drops your dog can take to feel better. Goodluck!
